Roebling Bridge Protest Turns Chaotic After Demonstrators Block Traffic Over ICE Detention

Tensions erupted on the historic Roebling Suspension Bridge connecting Cincinnati, Ohio, and Covington, Kentucky, after protesters blocked traffic in opposition to ICE’s detention of a local Muslim chaplain, Ayman Soliman.

Video from the scene shows demonstrators occupying the roadway, preventing vehicles from crossing the bridge during rush hours. Police moved in to clear the bridge, citing public safety concerns and the need to restore traffic flow between the two cities.

As officers attempted to disperse the crowd, clashes broke out. Authorities confirmed 18 arrests, while protesters accused police of using excessive force. One circulating video appears to show an officer striking a demonstrator during the confrontation.

In response, officials stated that one officer has been placed on administrative duty while the incident is reviewed. Law enforcement emphasized that blocking critical infrastructure poses serious safety risks and that repeated orders to clear the bridge were issued before arrests were made.

The incident has reignited debate over protest tactics, public safety, and how law enforcement should respond when major transportation routes are shut down.
