This morning, a fire at Supermercado 300 in Santana do Livramento – right on the Brazil-Uruguay border – suddenly exploded while firefighters were entering the structure.
At least 6 firefighters (both Brazilian and Uruguayan) were injured in the blast, along with several employees and people nearby. Thankfully, no deaths have been reported and all are being treated.
How did this happen? Early reports suggest the fire may have started near a generator, but authorities are still investigating.
After seeing this explosion, should firefighters be required to wait for structural and gas checks before entering burning buildings?
Thoughts?
