A woman was taken into custody outside a T.J. Maxx store following a suspected shoplifting attempt, according to local law enforcement.
Officers with the [City/Town] Police Department confronted the suspect—identified only as Fonda—after receiving reports of suspicious activity inside the retail store. Bodycam footage or witness accounts suggest the officers approached her calmly and asked her to step outside for questioning.
Upon confronting her, officers noted that the woman was in possession of merchandise from T.J. Maxx that had not been purchased. When asked, she complied and returned the items to a shelf behind her.
The officers also inquired about other items she was carrying, which were reportedly from Target. The suspect was unable to provide receipts for the items, including a pack of Huggies diapers.
When questioned about how she arrived at the store, the woman claimed she used a ride-sharing service such as Lyft or Uber. Officers then instructed her to place her phone down and advised that she was being placed under arrest for shoplifting.
Before being taken into custody, the suspect was asked if she had any items in her pockets, which she denied. One female officer was present during the search and arrest procedure.
Police confirmed that the suspect was cooperative during the arrest. No injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect’s identity may be released pending formal charges.
