When they were thrust into the public eye, they were still minors.

However, over the years, what has transpired with the youngest parents in Britain?

This week, we revealed that Tressa Middleton, the youngest mother in Britain, is now anticipating her fourth child, having given birth at the age of twelve.

A photograph of a baby ultrasound that the 29-year-old resident of Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland shared on Facebook was taken 17 years after her first pregnancy captured national attention.

In her post, she joyfully announced, “So guys, it’s another girl!!” She expressed disbelief at having four daughters. “Good luck, Darren.”

As the expectant mother shares her joyful news, we reflect on Tressa’s tragic past and the fates of the other youngest parents in Britain.

A horrific incident
When Tressa’s pregnancy was publicly disclosed at the age of 11, it was believed to stem from an event involving alcohol.

Coming from a tumultuous home with a mother battling addiction, Tressa gave birth shortly after completing elementary school.

Two years post-delivery, the young mother faced struggles with depression and addictions to alcohol and cigarettes, leading to her child being removed from her care and placed for adoption.

The identity of the father remained confidential until 2009, when the young mother revealed to authorities that her older brother Jason had sexually assaulted her.

The 34-year-old Jason was convicted of sexually abusing her from the age of seven and received a four-year prison sentence in 2009, based on DNA evidence.

In 2011, Tressa told the Daily Mail, “sometimes he blackmailed or bribed me to do it.”

“He would threaten to inform Mum. He would give me items – joints, alcohol, cigarettes. Or he would intimidate me.”

Since that time, Tressa has fought to rebuild her life and overcome her heroin addiction, which cost her £400 daily.

She and her partner, Darren Young, are now expecting their third child.

UK’s most recent youngest mother

For fifteen years, Tressa held the title of the youngest mother in Britain. However, in 2021, it was reported by The Sun that an 11-year-old girl was believed to have given birth.

At just ten years old, the girl—whose identity was kept confidential for legal reasons—was s*y assaulted.

Her family was unaware of the horrific incident, and social services investigated the situation at that time.

“It has come as a big shock,” a family friend remarked in 2021 to The Sun.

“She’s now receiving support from experts. The most important thing is that she and the baby are safe.”

Father with a baby face

The story gained widespread attention when it was revealed that 13-year-old Alfie Patten was set to become a father.

Even the then-prime minister, David Cameron, shared his views on the 2009 case, where it was claimed that the father had conceived a child before reaching the legal age to purchase party poppers.

The Tory leader expressed concern at the time, stating, “I just thought how worrying that in Britain today children are having children.”

At twelve years old, Alfie engaged in sexual relations with his then-girlfriend Chantelle Steadman, who was fifteen, during a sleepover in Lower Dicker, East Sussex, and believed he had made her pregnant.

However, six weeks after the birth of Maisie, a DNA test confirmed that he was not the biological father. The actual father was later identified as 14-year-old Tyler Barker.

Alfie expressed his feelings, saying, “I was devastated,” to The Sun in 2014. “It was overwhelming. I cried for days and hardly left my room.”

“To make matters worse, I never saw Maisie again because Chantelle and her family moved away as soon as they learned I wasn’t the dad.

“I couldn’t bring myself to do anything. I couldn’t attend school. I felt like my world had collapsed.”

By 2019, Alfie was unemployed, battling alcoholism, and facing legal troubles.

He was already serving a suspended sentence for shoplifting, theft, and possession of an imitation firearm when he crashed cars, resulting in his conviction for criminal damage.

UK’s Youngest Father
In 1998, Sean Stewart was believed to be the youngest father in Britain before the case of Alfie emerged.

At the age of 11, he became a father with his 15-year-old neighbor, Emma Webster.

Just a month after he turned twelve, Sean welcomed his son, Ben Louis, and was given a day off from school.

The couple began their relationship while living next door to each other in the village of Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire.

It was reported that Sean would climb onto the roof to visit Emma.

Emma later told The Sunday Telegraph, “He claimed to be 12; I would never have dated him had I known he was only 11.”

Eventually, Emma married someone else and moved into a house valued at £200,000.

Sean attended his local school for a while before leaving Bedfordshire during his early teenage years.

According to the Daily Mail, he was imprisoned for seven months in the late 2000s on suspicion of theft.

At that time, Emma stated, “I have no idea where Sean is or what he is doing,” as she planned to return to school after the baby was born.

“I prefer not to discuss it further as I don’t believe it benefits Ben.”

World’s Youngest Mum Was Five
Lina Medina gave birth in Peru 82 years ago when she was merely five years old.

In 1939, Lina Medina, a Peruvian, became the youngest mother in recorded history at the age of five.

The now 89-year-old Medina experienced “precocious puberty,” a condition that leads to an earlier onset of puberty, defined as occurring before the age of eight.

The identity of her father has never been disclosed.

Although he was arrested on incest charges, her father was later released due to a lack of evidence.

Teenage couples of similar ages engaging in consensual sexual activity in the UK, who are below the legal consent age of 16, are generally not prosecuted.

However, any sexual activity involving children under the age of 13 is considered illegal.
