What was meant to mark the joyful beginning of a couple’s life together took a horrifying turn in the serene hills of Shillong, India. On May 20, 2025, businessman Raja Raghuvanshi traveled to the hill station with his newlywed wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, to celebrate their honeymoon. But instead of love and laughter, the trip ended in cold-blooded murder, betrayal, and a nationwide scandal.

Days after their arrival, Raja’s decomposing body was found in a deep gorge, his identification missing, his wedding ring removed, and his dignity stripped away. What first appeared to be a tragic accident or a crime of passion soon revealed a premeditated murder plot so twisted it shocked even seasoned investigators.

Using phone records and GPS data, authorities discovered that Sonam had been actively sharing Raja’s movements with the group in the days leading up to the murder.

Between May 23 and May 24, Raja was likely lured or ambushed and then pushed into a steep gorge, where his body remained undiscovered for days. The motive? A mix of greed, manipulation, and deception.

Digital evidence, call logs, and text messages exposed the web of lies, ultimately leading to Sonam’s arrest on June 8. During intense interrogation, she confessed to orchestrating the murder-for-money scheme and using emotional manipulation to control the men involved.

Sonam and her alleged accomplices now face charges including murder, criminal conspiracy, and attempted murder, with the trial expected to begin later this year.
