On June 21, 2022, Riverside Police officers responded to a chaotic domestic disturbance call that rapidly escalated from a “he-said, she-said” dispute into a physical struggle with law enforcement. Upon arrival, officers found a male victim outside his residence, nursing an arm injury. He alleged that a simple argument over watching a movie and his girlfriend’s insulin use had turned violent. According to the man, his girlfriend, identified as Misty, had grabbed him by the testicles and bitten his arm when he tried to intervene in her self-harm attempt.

When officers entered the residence to investigate, they found Misty sitting on her couch in her undergarments, seemingly unbothered. However, the mood shifted instantly when officers informed her she was under arrest for domestic violence. “Why do I have to go? You don’t care!” Misty screamed, refusing to stand up or get dressed.

As officers attempted to take her into custody, Misty began to physically resist, pulling her arms away and dropping her weight to the floor. The situation turned into a chaotic wrestling match in the living room, with Misty shrieking, “You’re hurting me! I was defending myself!” while her small white dog barked frantically at the officers. Police were forced to physically restrain her on the floor to apply handcuffs, struggling even to get a pair of pants on the combating suspect.

The drama continued in the back of the squad car. Despite being the primary aggressor in the incident, a tearful Misty demanded her phone to call her mother and ironically asked the officers, “Can I get a restraining order?” Officers informed her that was a matter for the courts. Misty was ultimately transported to jail and booked on charges of Domestic Violence and Resisting Arrest.
