{"id":3980,"date":"2026-03-24T06:29:03","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T02:29:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/duye.live\/?p=3980"},"modified":"2026-03-24T06:29:04","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T02:29:04","slug":"as-trumprx-scam-does-virtually-nothing-big-pharma-jacks-up-prices-on-cancer-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/duye.live\/?p=3980","title":{"rendered":"As TrumpRx Scam Does Virtually Nothing, Big Pharma Jacks Up Prices on Cancer Drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cAs they continue to hike prices, the pharmaceutical industry is also working overtime to block reforms that would lower them, and patients are paying the price.\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A report released Monday found that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/big-pharma\">Big Pharma<\/a>&nbsp;has continued raising prices on dozens of cancer drugs, despite President Donald Trump\u2019s repeated false claims that he and his administration have slashed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/drug-prices\">drug prices<\/a>&nbsp;by a mathematically impossible 600%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patientsforaffordabledrugs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Oncology-Price-Hikes-Report_FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">analysis<\/a>, conducted by Patients for Affordable Drugs, found that pharmaceutical companies increased prices on 64 oncology drugs in the first weeks of 2026, with the vast majority of price hikes coming in above the rate of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/inflation\">inflation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RECOMMENDED&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a class=\"rm-stats-tracked\" href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/trumprx-drug-discounts\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/media-library\/president-trump-announces-trumprx-from-the-white-house.jpg?id=65315823&amp;width=600&amp;height=600&amp;quality=70&amp;coordinates=345%2C0%2C346%2C0\" alt=\"President Trump Announces TrumpRx From The White House\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/trumprx-drug-discounts\">As Costs Soar for Millions, TrumpRx Scam Offers Savings on \u2018Exactly One\u2019 Drug: Analysis<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a class=\"rm-stats-tracked\" href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/economy-under-trump\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/media-library\/us-iran-israel-war-demonstration.jpg?id=65163466&amp;width=600&amp;height=600&amp;quality=70&amp;coordinates=837%2C0%2C837%2C0\" alt=\"US-IRAN-ISRAEL-WAR-DEMONSTRATION\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/economy-under-trump\">\u2018People Are Loving What\u2019s Happening,\u2019 Trump Claims While Massacring Iranian Children as US Oil Prices and Unemployment Spike<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Patients for Affordable Drugs noted the heavy financial toll that paying for treatments takes on US cancer patients, and said the latest price increases would only exacerbate the crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCancer drugs are among the most expensive drugs on the market, costing $74,000 more on average than non-cancer drugs,\u201d the group explained. \u201cMore than 42% of cancer patients in the US fully depleted their savings within two years of diagnosis to cover their care. More than half of Americans with cancer go into debt because of the cost of their care.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Making matters worse, the group added, is that Big Pharma is heavily lobbying Congress to pass&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/big-pharma-lobbying-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">legislation<\/a>&nbsp;that would further delay small molecule drugs, including \u201cwidely used, high-cost cancer treatments,\u201d from becoming eligible for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/medicare\">Medicare<\/a>&nbsp;price negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SUBSCRIBE TO OUR FREE NEWSLETTER<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Daily news &amp; progressive opinion\u2014funded by the people, not the corporations\u2014delivered straight to your inbox.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Merith Basey, CEO of Patients for Affordable Drugs,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patientsforaffordabledrugs.org\/2026\/03\/23\/new-p4ad-analysis-pharma-hikes-prices-on-cancer-drugs-while-lobbying-to-obstruct-reform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stressed<\/a>&nbsp;that the latest price increases were unacceptable given that \u201ccancer is a leading cause of death among American seniors, and the treatments patients rely on are already among the most expensive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYet as they continue to hike prices, the pharmaceutical industry is also working overtime to block reforms that would lower them,\u201d added Basey, \u201cand patients are paying the price.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the Patients for Affordable Drugs report focuses on cancer drugs, a December&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/healthcare-pharmaceuticals\/drugmakers-raise-us-prices-350-medicines-despite-pressure-trump-2025-12-31\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>&nbsp;from Reuters found that at least 350 branded medications are set for price hikes in 2026,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/trump-drug-price-increases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">including<\/a>&nbsp;\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/vaccines\">vaccines<\/a>&nbsp;against Covid, RSV, and shingles,\u201d as well as the \u201cblockbuster cancer treatment Ibrance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The total projected number of drugs seeing price increases in 2026 is significantly higher than in 2025, when 3 Axis Advisors estimated that pharmaceutical companies raised prices on 250 medications. The median price increase for drugs in 2026 is projected at 4%, roughly the same as in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All of these price increases have come despite Trump\u2019s false claims that he has lowered the prices of drugs to the point where pharmaceutical companies would actually be paying patients to take them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An analysis released last week by the Center for American Progress (CAP)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/trumprx-drug-discounts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a>&nbsp;that the president\u2019s TrumpRx initiative, which was created to purportedly offer Americans cheaper prescription drugs, offered genuinely lower prices on \u201cexactly one\u201d of the 54 medications listed on its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CAP also found that nearly one-third of the drugs available on the TrumpRx website have generic alternatives that were cheaper than what was being offered, and that the website made no mention of this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/message-from-common-dreams\">An Urgent Message From Our Co-Founder<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><br>Dear Common Dreams reader,<br><br>The U.S. is on a fast track to authoritarianism like nothing I&#8217;ve ever seen.
