A man was shot and killed by a Jacksonville sheriff\u2019s officer Sunday at a mobile home park on the city\u2019s Westside after the man attacked the officer\u2019s vehicle and charged at them, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
JSO Chief Alan Parker said the man, identified as 39-year-old Michael Lee Wright, lived at the mobile home park with his girlfriend, who the sheriff\u2019s office did not identify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Parker said Wright\u2019s girlfriend decided not to stay with Wright Saturday night, but came back to their home Sunday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShe came to I guess get a few things, see how things were,\u201d Parker said. \u201cAnd as she pulled up, our suspect (Wright) came out, attacked her, started throwing stuff at the vehicle and everything, so she continued on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wright\u2019s girlfriend then went to a gas station in the nearby area, called JSO, and asked them to escort her back to her and Wright\u2019s home, Parker said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officer Patrick Burke, who\u2019s been with JSO for five years, according to Parker, then met up with Wright\u2019s girlfriend at the gas station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Afterward, Parker said Burke and Wright\u2019s girlfriend went to the mobile home park, which is called Normandy Estates Mobile Home Park and located at 8985 Normandy Blvd., so that Wright\u2019s girlfriend could \u201cget some things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs they arrive on scene and they\u2019re pulling up, the suspect (Wright) comes out and literally begins to attack the officer\u2019s vehicle,\u201d Parker said. \u201cHe\u2019s banging on it, may or may not have thrown something at it, that\u2019s all part of what they\u2019re looking at. He got up on the hood at one point, banging on the hood.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parker said Burke then reversed his vehicle, as Wright \u201ccontinued his aggressive act\u201d by hitting the vehicle on the driver\u2019s side and continuing to follow it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Burke then put his vehicle in drive after Wright got in front of it, pulled forward and pushed Wright into a yard with his vehicle, according to Parker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Afterward, Parker said Burke got out of the vehicle with his gun drawn, as Wright then \u201ccharged\u201d at him with \u201csome stuff in his hands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parker said Wright told Burke, \u201cGo ahead and kill me\u201d repeatedly, and said Burke told Wright to drop what Wright had in his hands. Parker did not mention what Wright had in his hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When Wright charged at Burke, according to Parker, Burke fired several shots, striking Wright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Afterward, Burke gave Wright medical treatment after he was able to \u201csafely secure\u201d him, Parker said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then, Parker said Wright was taken to a local hospital, where he died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parker said Wright has an \u201cextensive drug history,\u201d was Baker Acted about three years ago, and \u201chad an overdose\u201d within the past week. Parker also said Wright texted his girlfriend at an unknown time Sunday, saying \u201cI\u2019m going to die today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This shooting is JSO\u2019s eighth officer-involved shooting in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The State Attorney\u2019s Office is investigating the shooting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
