During that contact, Lee allegedly<strong>brandished a weapon toward the officers<\/strong>, creating what authorities described as an immediate threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response,&nbsp;<strong>two Modesto police officers discharged their firearms<\/strong>, striking Lee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Suspect Pronounced Dead at Scene<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lee was&nbsp;<strong>fatally wounded<\/strong>&nbsp;during the shooting and was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency response efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investigators later determined that the weapon Lee was holding was&nbsp;<strong>a BB gun<\/strong>, police confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Officers Identified, Placed on Administrative Leave<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The officers involved in the shooting were identified as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Officer Jeffrey Brandon<\/strong>, a\u00a0<strong>three-year veteran<\/strong>\u00a0of the Modesto Police Department<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Officer Cameron Irinaga<\/strong>, a\u00a0<strong>one-year veteran<\/strong>\u00a0of the department<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither officer was injured during the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both officers were placed on&nbsp;<strong>paid administrative leave<\/strong>, which police emphasized is<strong>standard procedure<\/strong>&nbsp;following any officer-involved shooting and does not indicate wrongdoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Multiple Investigations Launched<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In accordance with department policy,&nbsp;<strong>three separate investigations<\/strong>&nbsp;were initiated following the fatal shooting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Criminal investigation<\/strong>conducted by the Modesto Police Department<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Administrative investigation<\/strong>\u00a0conducted by the Modesto Police Department<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Independent review<\/strong>\u00a0conducted by the\u00a0<strong>Stanislaus County District Attorney\u2019s Office<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials said these investigations will examine whether the officers\u2019 actions were justified under California law and departmental policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Police Statement<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Police officials noted that officers must make&nbsp;<strong>split-second decisions<\/strong>&nbsp;when confronted with what appears to be a deadly threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt the time of the incident, officers believed the suspect was armed with a firearm,\u201d the department said in a statement. \u201cThe totality of the circumstances will be reviewed through multiple independent investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>What began as an effort to assist a bail bondsman escalated into a deadly encounter after a suspect allegedly pointed what appeared to be a weapon at police.
